BI will Announce the new BI 7-Day Reserve Repo Rate

The auction of Government Securities yesterday showed that investor interest in SUN was still high. The Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) of the Ministry of Finance announced that the results of the SUN auction held on Tuesday (6/16) recorded an incoming bid amounting to Rp84.82 trillion. From the auction, the Government received Rp20.5 trillion. The number of incoming bid at the auction tends to be lower than the number of incoming bids 2 weeks ago, which reached Rp105.27 trillion. At its Board of Governors (RDG) meeting on 17-18 June 2020, Bank Indonesia will announce the new BI 7-day Reverse Repo Rate. Although the rate has been cut by 50 bps to 4.5% in May 2020 since January 2020, we see that there is room for further rate cuts especially in view of the low inflation (monthly inflation reached only 0.07% in May 2020 or 2.19% yoy) and strengthening in the rupiah which appreciated by 2.8% in May 2020. According to Bloomberg, from 22 analysts, 15 expect a 25 bps rate cut to 4.25% while the other analysts expect BI to maintain the rate at 4.5%
